Green Guard Demo Carpet
Our Test Carpet

First. thanks so much to all twenty attendees at our product workshop held on Tuesday, May 7th!
I think it's fair to say that everyone got a lot out of our real-time testing and discussion of five different products. A key portion of our time together was the role of a quality fabric protector in your marketing and part of your extended service to the customer. I want to take a few moments here to not only say thanks, but to recap what we did together and the results achieved. In addition, I have some notes and thoughts afterward to share.

But first... why did that brand new electric sprayer stay continually spraying when I turned it on? Was it defective right out of the box? No, not at all. It was just me being brain dead. There is a trigger locking mechanism that I totally overlooked. Yes, I did feel rather dumb when I realized that afterward haha. This is a perfect example of how the simplest of things can easily confuse me.

So, lets take a look at our test carpet. I have it segmented so you can envision what we did and how we did it.

Green Guard demo

SECTIONS 1 and 2: We deployed moderate pH preconditioners here. In section #1 we used the new powdered prespray by Pro's Choice PRO-ELITE which combines a one-two punch of both conventional ingredients and enzymatic ones. This one worked excellently on even the very heavy soil and stains encountered on the carpet. In section #2 we used DSC's Sure-Pass, a long time favorite for decades. It's an everyday alkaline prespray with a pleasant lemony fragrance. Priced right, it is a nice go-to product for those that prefer liquids.

SECTIONS 3 and 4: We applied products designed for very heavy soil: DSC's SURE-FIRE in #3 and Pro's Choice's Firestorm in #4. The fibers in these sections look a little darker than the opposing side, but recall how this side seemed to be more soiled to begin with. Both performed well. Sure-Fire is a liquid and Firestorm is a powder. These are perfect for nasty commercial settings.

SECTIONS 5 and 6: This center traffic area is where we had applied Green Guard seven months earlier when the carpet was clean, and since had served as our main thoroughfare in and out of the shop since. The important takeaway here is that it realistically should have looked a lot darker over time as opposed to the balance of the carpet. It did not, which illustrates the soil resistance of a quality protector when properly applied.

In section #5 we applied no prespray, and in section 6 we overlapped those from sections 2 and 4 respectively. Section 6 cleaned just fine, but I anticipated section 5 (without prespray) would release the soil more easily.

After my discussion with Green Guard's manufacturer Jason, we concluded that it was the long time and incredible abuse it was subjected to. So our participant Ray also hit the nail on the head: we probably waited way too long and possibly some walked off. Jason told me that had the carpet been vacuumed somewhat regularly, we would have seen more clear results.

So there you have it folks... a real test with fantastic products, and a clear demonstration of the importance in maintenance and proper preconditioning of soiled yarns.

Many thanks to you all for your attendance, your questions, and your fine company and conversation. Special thanks to Tico for the use of his machine, Carlos for his cleaning, and Brenda for her awesome raking abilities! Thank you also to Cindy for making a gazillion sandwiches and bringing the cookies. Yes, I brought the rest home and ate them all.
